my son's baby tooth grew in broken down the center

Hello, my 8 1/2 month old son just got his top left tooth.  When it erupted through the gum line I thought it looked broken. It has come nearly all the way through now and it is most definately broken down the center. It looks like 1/3 of the tooth cracked and came apart from the other 2/3. He doesn't seem to be in pain and it's not discolored. It doesn't look rotten and there is no bleeding. A couple months ago when the tooth started coming in, I noticed that his gums were bleeding at the spot where the tooth was starting to come through. I know he's bumped his mouth several times, but never hard enough to break his tooth. Is it possible that it just grew that way? Should I take him in to be seen?
