Brain Surgery

Have had seizures for 10-12 years and neurologist just keep changing medications w/ nothing changing but me(moods, etc). 10 or 12 yrs ago they put me on Kappra and Depakote and I was dangerously moody and after taking this which they just keep increasing the dosage, and I would have a seizure-I would sleep for hours. I did not think this medicine was helping cure or control the seizures, so I started slowing lowering the dosage and finally got off this medication myself. The seizures continued but I was back to myself. Last January had a one car wreck due to a seizure and new neuolog. put me on Lyrica, still was having spells and no one diagnosed what was wrong. My wife and I got on internet and found that I was having Temporal Lobe Seizures. Went to ATL to a Neug. and he agreed w/ us and thru an EEG saw or picked up, what was causing and then thru an MRI saw the spot on the left lobe and also saw a broken blood vessel(dried up). He prescribed and additional med.-Dilantin. This has helped, but still having seizures. He wants to run lengthy in hospital examines and possibly do surgery. Would like to know who has had this surgery-success rate of being back to normal and also possible danger of coming out not myself or even worse. Also how long can I go, just taking the medicines? Of course after two 1-car accidents, I can not drive and this is hard on me. Not suppose to drive my boat or swim and this is bad. Please help me with these answers. tks

I would recommend a cardiac work-up also. My 16 year old son was diagnoised with "epilepsy" at 12..  Only having petite mal at first, then after several meds not working was started on Kepra and started having gran mal seizures. We asked could the meds be making him worse and was told no.  I am a RN, and of course was reading eveything I could find on the net about epilepsy.  Discovered that there are heart conditions that cause seizures, so I asked for a cardiac work-up and we got it.  The cardiologist right away said this is what I think it is, Neurocardiogenic Syncope.  The neurologist did not want to take him off the keppra, so I just weaned him off and his gran mal seizures stopped.  The next appt with neuro  the Dr. said well I don't think the Vagus Nerve stimulator is an option now!  He still is having petite mal which has not been controlled at all with 5-6 differnt meds, which I believe is due to instability of blood pressure and the cardiologist do too. We have just seen a Dr. (cardiac) at Mayo clinic who I hope is going to help get these under control,  I read that anyone having seizures should have a cardac work-up too.  My inital cardiologist said, If you have someone that is not responding to any seizure meds, look for another diagnosis..  Sorry this is so long, but I always think it is worth sharing if it helps someone improve...... Thanks
