Petit Mal Seizures in Toddler

My 2.5 year old DD woke up during the middle of the night a couple of nights ago and was eating and talking to my DH.  He said that her eyes suddenly rolled back in her head so that only the whites of her eyes showed.  Apparently within a second or two she stopped and was acting competely normal.  It happened again a little while later, with it resolving within a second or two.  I thought that it may have been because she was trying to go back to sleep, but he said she was completely awake and sitting up, had walked around even.  Then it happened again on his way to take her to preschool.  We took her in to the doctor's office and he said he was not sure what was happening, that it was either that she had just figured out how to do it, or it could be petit mal seizures.

I have not seen her do this completely, but I have noticed over the past day or so that she does seem to look up at times, for a split second or so and then she is blinking a lot and seems a little disoriented for a few more seconds.

Does this sound like petit mal (abscence) seizures?
