keppra & lamortigine (Lamictal)

I have epilepsy & I was originally on carbamazepine & lamotrigine for about 12yrs with no side effects except weight gain, after 8yrs fit free I had a seizure.  My Neuro changed me onto Topamax & Lamotrigine...it was fab at first, no seizures, lost about 30lb in 2 months, then I had several side effects with the Topamax: my speech on some occasions made me sound drunk especially each time it was increased, I also had pins & needles in my hand & feet.  I suffered twitching on left side of face a couple of times, dizzy, very moody, panicing, irriatable, also felt like I didnt care about work, my relatonship etc.  I have a responsible job & normally I'm so driven but I didnt care if anything went wrong, luckily I've got great colleagues who covered my back!  I also suffered hair loss (hairdresser said I'd lost about 1/4 of my hair~it used to be very thick & a lot of it, now it's brittle, dry & limp) then after about 5mths I had 2 Auras where I felt like I blacked out but I was told that I just looked a bit spaced out & didnt have a seizure, then on Xmas day of all days I had a seizure ~ I was stood up & it was like I was robotic & very calm.  I then had another seixure in Feb so the Neuro decided to ween me off & start Keppra with the Lamotrigine, I eventually finished Topamax the end of May. I've had no problems with Keppra, I've gained about 4lb but I feel so much better off the Topamax. I've been seizure free for 4mths.  My hair is still thin & it's like I've receeded a little, I'm only 37!  It has helped looking at the forum seeing that after about 4-6mths the hair tends to grow back.  I wouldnt recommend anyone to take Topamax, the side effects out weigh the pros.
