seizure, brain lesions and not much else. How is this plan for dx?

by ny12345, Nov 09, 2009 10:31AM
My DH (age 49) had his first seizure a few weeks ago. Since then we have discovered a few lesions in his brain, but not where seizures typically start. His blood work, multiple neuro, EEG exams are all normal. The radiologist said the lesions were suggestive of MS, but  he has NO other MS symptoms. Our neuorlogist (an epilepsy specialist) doesn't think they look "MSy". We have ruled out Lyme, Lupus etc.

So this is where we are at - another MRI in more detail and another longer EEG to try to find the source of the seizure which is really the only symptoms he's had of anything. Dr. says if the MRI doesn't show additional lesions we do not need to continue down the MS path with a spinal tap. If it does then we will.

This makes sense to me. Anyone have another thought? do people with epilepsy (or anyone else for that matter) just have lesions sometimes? thanks!

My mom was diagnosed w/ MS after having clonic seizures, almost 10 yrs ago. It is an uncommon but entirely possible symptom of MS. She takes dilantin for the seizures and shots 3x a week to slow the progression of MS. It has worked and she has done very well.
