Hi lilly6969,

How are you? I hope your husband’s fine.  A seizure happens when there is an excessive electrical activity in the brain. It can be localized or distributed/ generalized. The diagnosis of epilepsy or seizure is made based on the medical history, EEG or even MRI to discover the cause or what kind of seizure.   It is important to visit your doctor for proper evaluation and management since this can be treated with medications prescribed. What is also important is how to prevent your husband from self-injury during the seizure by moving him away from sharp edges, placing something soft beneath his head and carefully placing him on his side to prevent aspiration.  If the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, this requires immediate hospitalization and emergency treatment.

You can learn more about this through this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epilepsy

I hope this helps. Take care and regards.
