Lateral foot pain

I recently started running and I am having right lateral foot pain just above the 5th digit (tarsal area).  It hurts more when I am walking after I have been runing.  I have not run in awhile because I had this pain before so it is disappointing to have just started running again and the pain has already returned.  Any suggestions?

Thank you

i presume that you mean the 5th metatarsal (long bone), which is located closer to the tarsal area.
you have a peroneal tendon that attaches to the base of this bone. this tendon could be inflamed when wearing improper shoes or orthotics in stability/motion control shoes.
stress fractures can result along this area as well.  ice the area and take 600 mg motrin three times daily (as long as you are not allergic to it and not taking any other NSAIDS). if the pain continues, get an xray.
