Medicine

Medicine

This might not be the place to post this but my boyfriend and I have been trying to find help figuring this out. He is taking a list of medicines for different things. The reason we are both worried is he just keeps falling asleep in the middle of the day and we are not sure what is causing it because he sleeps at least 9 hours every night.  the list of medicines are Lisinopril, Elavil, Plavix, Aspirin, Zoloft, Zocor, Coreg, Flextra, Celebrex, Ala-Hist D, Carbatrol. He was also on Aldactone but was taken off of it 3 weeks ago. I am not sure if it is one medicine or a combination. We have tried talking to his PCP about this and he said that it is not the medicines but he was not doing this before he was put on these medication.

Boy, I hate to disagree with a physician on this net, but it appears his PCP is not thinking this out.

There are only two possibilities:

(1) The medications are causing sleepiness.
(2) Some other problem is causing sleepiness.

All of the medications you listed can precipitate sleepiness. I suspect his PCP knows this.  I was not present during the conversation that took place between your boyfriend and the PCP, but I know there are two sides to every story.

That being said, everything is a trade-off. If the benefit from the medications exceeds the sleepiness side effect than it makes sense to continue them.
