Transmission Questions

Hey everyone -

We seem to have a few transmission questions now, and in the ones I have seen so far, people have been quite rude.  If these questions bother you, don't answer them.  If you think it's a troll, just report it and let us check it out.

Please remember that before you got Hep C, you might not have known all the info about transmission, and keep in mind that someone who might have really been at risk might be afraid to ask about it if all he/she sees is insults to those who ask about transmission.

"quite rude"

Describes just as many of the questions as it does the answers, perhaps more.
Time to favor the use of 'quiet rude' over 'quite rude' it seems.

' interferon makes people impulsive"

Yeah. So do posts about used condoms, found on the floor, ending up in the poster's mouth, with an ensuing bout of germiphobia.

I'd say, on the balance, for a bunch of unpaid content providors this place does pretty well.

I think I read Anne's comment about" giving blood regularly is just as accurate as...." to mean that giving blood is an accurate way to get a diagnosis. If I misunderstood, I am terribly sorry. I guess she meant is an accurate way to tell when you actually acquired the virus. As someone who got the virus from blood, I tend to be a bit upset when people say they are going to give blood to get a diagnosis. Again, I am sorry I misunderstood your intent.

It's a damn shame that someone who actively pursues donating blood to save peoples lives has to be one of the people who can't.......when they aren't even enough to begin with!

Who encouraged anyone to donate blood in order to be tested?  Only your typed words would suggest this.  I only point this out because we all need to make the effort to be as clear as we can when working in a limited communication medium.

I didn't give blood to find out - I give blood regularly and found out that way - I had no reason to think I had HCV

Giving blood is definitely not a good way to find out if you have HCV. Even with the NAT testing, etc., there is still a window when your blood may not  test positive and could still get in to the blood supply. Please don't encourage people to do this as an inexpensive or easy way to learn their HCV status.

QUACKERS!!   Yp - I had symptoms but thought I was dehydrated and didn't see a doctor.  A month later I gave blood and then got the letter.  I know I got it between the end of March and June of last year.  As I said, I give blood so often that it was caught quickly. Kick it kick it kick it

Maybe it's time to set up an faq (frequently asked questions) link, that way there would be a standard answer and more ppl would be happy with the answer given or received.  If there's already a link, I obviously haven't come across it yet.  I'm just sayin'

I certainly take offense to your post. The few negative posts are such a small percentage of what really happens on this forum.  I totally agree with what willbb posted.

I personally have continued to post here even though I have been off treatment and cured over 2 years ago. I stay here to give back because I was helped by so many on this forum.

When I first found out I had HCV I was horrified and thought I was going to die. I joined every HCV forum on the internet seeking answers. I asked some "stupid questions" and now realize how patient the members here were with me. This forum was where I received the most help and I eventually stop visiting the other forums. There are many members here that know more about HCV then most doctors! And these same members have been around long enough to know when someone is here to scam them.

Just my opinion........

I agree Anne...no-one should be frightened away.... that is not at all cool. I guess keeping fingers in check to the obvoius game players is the best way.  And yes ...I guess if they are totally ignored they will disappear on their own anyway.

I don"t recall any strange questions by you  :)   and yes no need to shout.. :)

Best ...Will

Oh please don't misunderstand - NOT shouting at all - just making a distinction.  No carbon dating but giving blood regularly is just as accurate as well as regular LFT'S for a thyroid issue. I know the few months in which it was contracted.

I agree with you too Will.  I certainly have not been around long enough to have that frustration so my simple way would just be not to answer.  My only opposition to responding curtly is that as Emily said, there are legitimate potential posters who might be frightened off after having read some of the sarcastic replies.  I do remember asking strange questions since there isn't much information out there about acute HCV.  I did my best to get as much info as possible but there isn't a substitute to the experienced friends I found here.
I just hate to see someone turned off because of the occasional nuscience.

Most people here, if not everyone, in my opinion is anything but "rude" 99.9% of the time.
The responses to those that are legitimately looking for answers or support about HCV are helped  immensely  and with patience  regardless often of the nature of their queries.
Many here respond with a caring attitude to genuinely help the new person make sense of what is happening to them regardless of  sometimes what seems like questions that the answers may even be obvious.

The only time I see ( and have done so myself )  folks often lose their patience and get somewhat sarcastic is when people come on here and seem to use this informative site for their obvious amusement and a playground of sorts.

I believe most here can easily spot these people and it is hard to just let that person ,in my opinion mock the seriousness of what this site is  needed for  .

as Andiamo says "in a perfect world I guess we should just ignore these people and report them to you however,I guess looking after it ourselves just seems easier.

Again..I would venture to guess that most if not all people looking for a legitimate answer to any question about HCV .would say they received help and understanding from our members. The trolls and people that think HCV is some kind of game ...well  ..I guess I for one  really don"t care much about what they think..

I"ll prolly land in a pile of it..for this post...but hey ...   my 1 cent anyway.

I do know WHEN, I just don't know HOW since I have no risk factors other than a medical procedure and a tetanus shot.  I developed clear symptoms although I didn't know they were related to HCV and then received a Red Cross notice.

How do you know you were acute.  If you don't know where you got HCV you have no idea when you were acute.

In a perfect world I certainly agree with you.  But many people here are stressed by the disease and more so by the treatments.  When a person posts transmission questions that have been answered almost daily and when the post seems more an attempt at bragging about sexual exploits than a reasonable question then I understand perfectly when some people get upset.

The best response is just to report the post, but I can tell you from experience, interferon makes people impulsive, so I have a lot of sympathy for the people that get sarcastic.
