does having positive test for herpes type 1 protect from any other type 1 infection

A girl I recently dated told me that she acquired genital Herpes simplex type 1 about 3 years ago, but has been asymptomatic for 2 years.  If I never had symptoms of oral or genital herpes, but tested positive for Herpes simplex type 1 IgG , could I get genital Herpes type 1 from her by oral or sexual contact.

What is the best test to determine which type of Herpes you have ?

having hsv1 yourself ( presumed orally if you can't recall symptoms in either location ), gives you significant protection from acquiring hsv1 genitally from a partner. always err on the side of caution and avoid sex any time she has anything going on genitally but it's not likely at all that you'd contract hsv1 genitally from her.

type specific herpes igg blood testing is a good way to test for herpes when you don't have obvious lesions to culture and type.
