worried about oral herpes

About 6 days ago i performed oral sex on a long time friend/ex-boyfriend.  I've only had one other sexual partner who I did perform unprotected oral sex on twice.  I was reluctant to perform unprotected oral sex on my friend but did so anyway.  I was fine the day of but developed a sore throat the next day.  Two days later I noticed what looked like white spots in the crypt of my left tonsil.  I went to a clinic and strep was ruled out.  I was given an antibiotic for bacterial infection.  I've only been on the medicine for a few days but I figured my tonsils should start clearing up by now.  In fact, the left tonsil has swollen a bit and the white spots now have a grayish tint.  I haven't heard from my friend either since it happened so I'm worried that something is going on with him.  Is it possible that I have herpes?  My throat has been sore but i haven't had a too difficult time swallowing.  I haven't had any other symptoms other than a bit of soreness on both sides of my neck near my ears.  Can someone help?
