It's Alllways Sumthin'

I think I blew out my ankle tonight.  I went down and it didn't fall with me so I everted it totally and heard and felt several smaps and pops.  The leg went numb in shock and I compressed it quickly to prevnet the hemorrhaging (I have a bleeding disorder)  I have reduced sensation in that foot and it doesn't hurt too bad.  I will have it elevated for a while and will be still off the forum.

Yesterday we took my mom to the ER with a spontaneous pheumothorax.  A bleb of lung popped and air escaped betweenn the lung and the chest wall.  It happens.

She's okay, but no being one to be upstaged I am now gmping.  I'll know more tomorrow.

Hope your ankle/leg feels better soon.  So sorry to hear about it!  Glad your mom is doing ok.  Nexttime please get it looked at right away!  I know how schock is but better to get checked  - waiting can cause further damage, as i am sure you know!  Anyhow...you are in my thoughs and prayers!

Oh, my, I didn't even rember that I posted about my mom and the ankle.  Brain sprain, too.

Sorry for the double posting.

Thank you all for your wishes.  And I was yelled at for waiting to have it seen.  I was clearly in shock and not evaluating things right.  I am also sorry for all of you that have gone through this.  My last sprain was in 1968.

Mom is right as rain.

Leg is yucky.  I want to be here but can't sit with the leg depedent.

I'm awaiting a call to see an ankle specialist ortho.  I have an AirCast (the airlboot above)  Sounds like the sam model.  I also have a Dansko sandal that brings me up to the correct height for when I can walk better.

Sure hope you didn't do too much damage my dear!  I have badly sprained my ankle a few times and many have told me that it's worse than had I broke it...at least if I had broken it they would have been able to cast it.

Anyway, I hope that you won't suffer too much with this but it doesn't sound too good girl...you will be in my thoughts and I am hoping for the best for you!  Take care!

Lots of ankle healing Hugs,
Rena

Since you're probably at the hospital with Mom anyway, GET THEE TO THE ER for a photo shoot.  That's the good advise you would give anyone else here.  You know that pesky little 5th met can be a booger to heal if it was pulled apart like a wishbone (as it very likely was on a roll).

Available for short to midterm loan.  Air Boot in used but excellent condition.  Neutral gray color with easy adjust loop and hook fasteners.  Dual built in air bags to customize fit. Unifoot design for left or right healing needs.  Hard plastic outer and washable lining suitable for use during river walking and fly fishing.  Experienced in handling users prone to MS related falls.  Warning: Will only increase height effectively when worn as a pair.  Suitable mate not available.

Hope you feel better all over soon.

ouch!  getting older and falling apart it not fun!  What happened to aging gracefully?? That WAS my place but as all of us here has found out not everyone is so lucky.

Hope it is not brokend Q and it gets better quickly!  Hope your mom is doing ok.  It is very difficult having your own health issues at a time when you should be well enough to help your aging parents out.  I am in the same situation.  :-(

DOH!!!!

Well, i think we might need to wrap you up in bubble wrap or cotton wool, to save you from your self. :-)

Hmmmm shouldn't you be seeing a dr other than your self? With the reduced sensations you could of done some damage, worth getting it checked just incase, right???

Hope you and your mum both get better soon!

Cheers........JJ

It is true! Doctors and nurses ARE the worse patients!LOL I'm going to throw some of your own advice at you...walking isn't overrated..go to the hospital and get it looked at. That's what you would have told me.

Sorry about your mother. I hope you both recover quickly. My daddy is in the hospital again too, so I know the feeling. What's that saying about..when it rains, it pours!

Ankles are not my thing...2 years ago I felt what I thought was a snap in my ankle when I tripped over a forklift truck (as one does) and tore all 3 ligaments and this took about 9 months to heal. SO...take no chance..you know the score..get that Rice Krispy ankle checked out asap.

Love Sarah xx

PS Hope you Mum is improving...life has a way of throwing several challenges at us all at once.

Ah, a hitch in your getalong...  It wouldn't be a bad idea to get it X-rayed, just in case.

Be prepared for spasticity in that leg once your body recovers from the shock  - I always have spasms of the muscles in the leg when I injure my feet.

Oh, Quix.  I have done that myself, so many times.  It sounds like a footdrop interfered.

It sounds like you tore some ligaments.  Keep it wrapped, ice and elevate.  You are going to get some bruising going there.  It is so painful, I know.  Myself having so many sprains in the past, when I take a step down in particular, I almost cringe thinking about sprains.

I hope your mom is okay.  It is so hard when our parents are elderly and ill.

Take care of yourself....

Snap, crackle and pop used to conjure images of Rice Krispies - now it just makes me think of aging and how quickly we can have something serious happen without warning or aggravation.

Please follow your own advice and get it checked. - L
