Am I ok?

Am I ok?

I recently had a pap done and my test results came back as me having Atypical cell.  My doctor said that this is a virus that I am stuck woth fo the rest of my life.  Is this true?  She also informs me that it is infact a std.  Is this true?  This is the second time being tested for atypical cell.  After my first biopsy they said I was fine and that it was caused by me being pregnant.  I am here in hopes of getting a second opinion.  Please help?

Hi There,
atypical cells is a term used  in many ways in many different parts of the body. For pap smears, atypical means that it is not cancer or even precancer but slightly abnormal. The next step is testing for a very common virus called Human papillomavirus (HPV). if you have been exposed to HPV, there are certain subtypes of HPV that are associated with cancers and precancer changes. Atypical cells can also be secondary to inflammation and not related to HPV.

here is a link for more information.   http://www.cdc.gov/std/hpv/

If you do have exposure to HPV infection, in over 80% of women, there infection clears within three years. It is not true that you would have it for the rest of your life.
