Ovarian Cancer Survival

by sappu1979, Jun 07, 2009 09:33PM
My Mother was diagnosed with 3rd stage of ovarian cancer 9 years back, she had a surgery , got ovaries removed and took chemotherapy for 6 months. From then onwards she has been fine and there has been no recurrence. She has been taking CA125 tests every 6 months and CT Scan once  a year. I just wanted to know if these tests are enough to diagnose the  recurrence of the cancer ?

Hi There
how absolutely wonderful!
Yes , six month surveillance with CA 125 and exams is reasonable. It is controversial whether yearly CT scans should be continued. There is a radiation exposure to CT scans. While there have been no reports of cancers  due to too much radiation exposure from xrays, it is a theoretical risk.
best wishes
