Ovarian Cyst

by gerasimovac, Feb 26, 2008 07:19PM
Hi, My name is Cynthia and I am 21 years old. I have had many problems reguarding my stomach and during a CT scan my doctor informed me that I had a cyst on one of my ovaries. I have been experiencing a lot of pain on my right side of my uterus. Is this the cause of the cyst alone? I read an article about debris from the uterus spreading to the fallopian tube. Could that be seen as a cyst? I haven't seen a doctor for the cyst yet but I will be as soon as I can save up the money. Any advice you can give me would be greatly apreciated!!!

Dear Cynthia,

You should ask your doctor for more information. It is also helpful to get a copy of the CT scan report. In general , a CT scan is not the best test to look at the ovaries. A pelvic ultrasound is the best test for that. Most cysts on the ovary at age 21 are related to ovulation. They come and go with the menstrual cycle.

The usual approach is repeat an ultrasound in 6 weeks to see if the cyst goes away which it will if it is related to ovulation.
best wishes
