had a question in regard to hormones and pregnancy

by Sabrina77, Dec 12, 2008 01:04PM
I did some blood work a couple months ago at my doctors office and the test results for my hormones came back, I was curious as to some of the results because FSH and LH seem to be low. The day I took the test was mid way through my mentrual cycle about day 10 or 12. Here's my hormone levels, please let me know if something looks out of place:

Estradiol: 478 pg
Estrogens, Total: 558 pg/ml
FSH: <0.7 L(mlU/ml)
LH: 4.9 (mlU/ml)
Progesterone: 1.8 (ng/ml)
Testosterone: 87 H (ng/dL) Was told by doctor this was a little high, normal is under 70 from what I understand. I also have hair loss. I have been tested for PCOD but all that was found on the ultrasound was 3 small follicular cysts in the left ovary and one in the right, which from what I understand isn't enough to raise my testosterone significantly.

I have extremely painful periods, have not been able to get pregnant, have long term hair loss, chronic insomnia, and very low energy. Just wondering if the hormones above indicate anything out of the ordinary. Thanks.

Hi!
To be really useful, an FSH should be done on day 3 of your cycle.
A progesterone level should be done on day 21.
The best testosterone test is a Free Testosterone level (active hormone).
I would also like to see a thyroid level and a prolactin level, so if they are going to repeat any blood work, see if they will do those too!

Your FSH/LH ratio and your testosterone level are not inconsistent with PCOS--and we don't always see lots of cysts on the ovaries with that--so that still could be the culprit.

I also wonder about endometriosis!  Have you had a laparoscopy done or your fallopian tubes tested for patency?

Most hair loss is familial (is your father bald?) but you would want to rule out lupus too, as that is one other diagnosis that could explain both problems.

As far as the levels you have, there is nothing drastically wrong at all, but if you have any other blood draws get the tests listed above and timed with your cycle!

Good luck!
