Help for excessive mucus

Mucinex is expensive and like many meds, it eventually stops working if taken a long time.  NAC N-Acetyl-Cysteine -NAC is an amino acid that is used in Europe to treat bronchitis - it's a mucus thinner.  You can buy it on line or at local health food store.  Drink tons of water when taking mucus thinners.
It's also imperative that throughout the day, you use a saline nasal spray - squirt, blow - breath.  ahhhh....
Nasal irrigation is also very effective for  throat mucus.
Now, if only all this would be possible while I'm sleeping -
I have yet to wake up without being all clogged up - and with the inevitable throbbing sinus headache.
Wash, rinse, repeat, wake up clogged.
Arrggghhh....

Routine use of a prescription nasal steroid spray can be very effective in the treatment of nasal and sinus congestion.  It decreases inflammation in the nose and sinuses along with mucus production.  When a nasal steroid spray is used regularly it can prevent congestion, including while you’re sleeping.  However it does not provide immediate relief of symptoms.  It may need to be used every day for several weeks to months to notice improvement in the symptoms.  To get the most help from any nasal spray first do a nasal wash to remove mucus from the nose and sinuses.  To learn more about this technique please read our nasal wash treatment information by copying and pasting this address
