Shortness of breath, no pain

I started having a shortness of breath a little over a month ago. I went to the ER at the local hospital. Everything seemed good, EKG, Oxygen levels, Blood Pressure.  I had no pain with this.  I was told high cholesterol 267, was put on Lipitor.  After a month, I went to ER again same problem, shortness of breath, right leg numbness.  Again everything good, had a stress test, but have not received the results.  I'm wondering if this could possibly be an allergy to something?  I live in a home that is over a 100 years old, it has had leaky roof, could have mold or mildew.  Also, we bought a new smoker for smoking meats for our backyard a little over a month ago, could I be allergic to the smoke from the wood?

Heart disease and lung disease are the two main causes of shortness of breath.  The tests that were done at the local ER provide minimal, non-specific information about your heart and lungs.  The stress test should at least provide information about how your heart is working.  The cause of your shortness of breath could indeed be an allergic lung response to smoke, mold or fungi.

The right leg numbness is worrisome.  While pain is the usual symptom, numbness could be a sign of clots in the leg that could go to your lungs.  You need to have a chest x-ray, lung scan, and pulmonary function tests for starters.  The diagnosis could even be something as common as asthma.  Given that some causes of shortness of breath are more serious than others, you should see a lung or heart specialist soon.
