Sore throat, Couching up flem(phlegm), Causes chest infection Tonsils?

by 96bremi, Feb 20, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,

I keep on getting a problem with the back of my throat.  I get it for about four days and then it goes away.  My throat gets really sore and makes me unable to swallow and is causing me to create lots of flem (phlegm) and even causes chest infections.  I have been to the doctor about it and the first time he said it was Tonsillitis and gave me Penicillin.  The second time it was identical and I was diagnosed with a chest infection.  Whenever I get it I feel really weak and sleep for hours and hours.  I was wondering if this could be something to do with my tonsils and whether I could do anything to stop getting this?  Also my girlfriend never seems to get it just me so could it be tonsillitis?

I seem to get this once a month and am taking too much time off work and need some help.

Thanks for all your help,

Michael

This could be from several different causes.  This could be related to a chronic sinus inflammation and/or infection.  This causes the drainage and irritation you have described.  It could also be from allergy that causes the drainage.  The drainage, from whatever the cause, then gets infected.  I would speak to your physician about getting a CT scan of the sinuses as a first step to determine what is the ongoing problem.
