Trouble Breathing Sitting Up
My dad has MS and recently had a baclofin pump implanted.  About a week after the surgery he has trouble breathing sitting up.  When he lays down his breathing is fine.  He went to the ER and stayed in the hospital for 4 days and they found nothing.  I am wondering what else it could be.  He can still breathe sitting up tires after about 3 hours.  I am told that if you had trouble breathing sitting up you would have it laying down.  What could be causing this?  If it is the baclofin medicine wouldn't that effect breathing laying down?

Thanks

This could be platypnea-orthodeoxia.  Shortness of breath that goes away when a person changes position from sitting up to lying down is called platypnea.  A drop in the oxygen saturation level in the blood when a person changes position from lying down to sitting up is called orthodeoxia.  I don't know what relationship this might have to the baclofin pump being implanted.  Since your dad
