My 11 year old is allergic to the family cat. Claritan has been the solution for past two years, but now the doctor recommended Non-drowsy 12-hour sudafed. Are there long-term effects I should be concerned about?

Claritin is a non-sedating antihistamine.  Sudafed is a decongestent that is also non-sedating and may act as a stimulant.  There are no significant long-term effects, from it.  If Claritin is working, why switch?

Also, environmental control including limited access to bedrooms and plush furniture would help. Sending the cat to another loving home would be best.
