mucous problems

by k2au, May 25, 2008 01:46PM
I have a long history of having asthma and allergies.  My nasal passage is always filled with mucous.  The color is usually yellow.  I have had nasal polyups removed several times.  It's also very hard to sleep lying in bed because I wake up with severe coughing and asthma.  I usually try sleeping in a chair.
It's getting harder and harder to perform my daily activities.  I still work ,  my age is 60, and when I have to climb a flight of stairs I have to rest half way up.
Any help would be appreaciated.
Thanks

Sounds like nasal congestion is a major problem and one that could contribute to sub-optimum control of your asthma.  You probably have recurrence of the polyps.  Routine use of a nasal steroid spray can be very effective in the treatment of nasal polyps.  It decreases inflammation in the nose and sinuses along with nasal polyps.  When a nasal steroid spray is used regularly it can shrink nasal polyps.  However it does not provide immediate relief of symptoms.  It may need to be used every day for several weeks to months to notice improvement in the symptoms.  To get the most help from any nasal spray first do a nasal wash to remove mucus from the nose and sinuses.  To learn more about this technique please read our nasal wash treatment information by copying and pasting this address

into the address window of your internet browser.  Share this information with your doctor to see if you would benefit from this daily treatment.

It sounds like your asthma is sub-optimally controlled and responsible for your having to rest while climbing stairs.  You should speak with your doctor about taking medicine on a regular daily basis for asthma, such as an inhaled steroid and a long-acting inhaled bronchodilator an example of which is AdvairĀ® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol).
