trazodone

I am starting trazodone for sleep problems myself tonight, prescribed one 50mg tablet at bedtime. For the past 10 days I've used alprazolam and it works good, but my doc says it's addictive and wants me to try trazodone. If the Traz does not work, I may want to take alprazolam also. Is that dangerous, lets say I take trazadone at 10 pm and if I can't sleep by 1 or 2 a.m., can I take a small .25 pilll of alprazolam? Thanks
