I also agree that an FMLA would be the way to go, but there are some restrictions, you have to be at a job for at least 12 months. Be sure to have the forms turned into your doc in a timely manner and then HAND deliver the completed FMLA forms back to your employer.  Also, I'm not sure that it would get you out of an important meeting, especially if that meeting was about your position (or if you have been in a disciplinary process).

A doctor's note alone is not probably going to be enough, especially if you have had absenteeism problems at your job.  What is the meeting about?  My advice to you would be to try to attend the meeting if at all possible, especially if you feel your job could be in jeopardy if you don't.

Also, it can depend on what state you're in.  Like in here PA, we are an "at will" employment state, which basically means that an employer or employee can end the employment at any time, for almost any reason, barring any kind of contract.

Hope it works out for you!

Agree...getting doctor to sign FMLA form is best protection for you.

I've been through this type of issue...and a doctor's note won't cut it.

Not sure exactly how you get started...but do get that form filled out by doctor and in to your boss or HR.

What I ended up doing is applying for FMLA. Before that, even though I had notes from my doctor, I ended up having to change or cancel physical therapy and doctor appointments because of meetings and deadlines. I wasn't able to get the treatment I needed and it was very stressful trying to coordinate everything. The last time I went to the doctor my blood pressure was high, and it has always been on the low side, even when I was pregnant. That was when I made the decision to take a leave of absence and go on FMLA. You may want to check on that. Slowly I feel my anxiety levels going down and I am able to get the treatment I need without hassle from my boss.

Good luck and hope that helps.
