Only 2??? I thought we would have more....
Ok...?- do either of u have IBS issues?...GERD?
More than 10 lbs to lose
more than 20lbs to lose?
Still have balance issues?
No IBS or GERD...Hiatal hernia and Esophogeitis.
Wayyyyy more than 20lbs to lose.
Balance is pretty good.
Guess some moral support might help me too :) I would LOVE to lose 20 pounds! I still have balance issues from the 3rd surgery. Probably a good place to start would have been skipping the giant blueberry muffin I just ate :)
Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes...how awful lol
I also have a problem with cardio exercises but BP meds are improving it. I just ordered a bike trainer for my mountain bike so hopefully that will help me this winter!
Count me in!!!!
I have Gerd and Hiatal hernia. And I want to lose at least 50 pound!
Ok...is everyone eating healthy?
If u have GERD, r u following the correct diet?
I've been working on eating healthier.
- Limited amount of bread, whole grain (I can't do wheat, gross)
- Rarely pasta
- Nothing fried, cook with olive oil if necessary
- Very little, if any, red meat. Lots of chicken and pork, and some turkey.
- Lots of fruit. I usually eat some with breakfast and maybe as late night dessert
- Veggies I'm picky about. I put spinach on nearly everything and have spinach salads, also lots of tomatoes and peppers
- Lots of seasoning makes everything taste great!
- Always eat breakfast
- I have a 32oz water jug and try to hit the 64oz everyday. Some days it's easy, some days not!
- Portion control is a side effect of my medication, conveniently
My weakness is soda. I have usually no more than two 12oz per day, but the caffeine helps my headaches a lot so sometimes it's more. I tried coffee but it makes me feel sick, and caffeinated tea (hard to find!) didn't seem to work.
Would love any further diet advice! I tried to get in to see a nutritionist, but my ins would not cover.
I don't have GERD, but likely have IBS...diet changes have made it slightly better, but still a big problem. I was told metamucil would help and also kill late night cravings, so I will let you know.
What meds is everyone on?....has neone been on an antibiotic recently?
Probiotics r helpful for those with IBS as is supplementing magnesium.
Eating a diet with the right amount of fiber helps as well : )
Soda, is not good for u, too much sugar.....I understand u want the caffeine but, would advise against about the 2 per day. JMHO
I am amazed at the improved sleep, and how my IBS is since adding the probiotics and magnesium.
Please speak with ur PCP b4 adding ne supplements as they may have a adverse reaction to other meds u may be on.
Count me in. I have gained 20 lbs since my surgery last year. I think it had a lot to do with the Lyrica I was taking and the pain clinic just changed this to Keppra and hopefully this will help. I am a walker, and I try to get out at least 3 times a week and walk at least 2 to 3 miles. My weakness is pop. (diet) but I am alway's drinking it. I know it's not good for me and I don't drink that much water. Also my nightly ice cream. I acturally ran out last night so I won't buy any more. I love having all of you for support.
I will start my magnesium back up. Dr had give it to me for headaches but since it didn't help, I stopped taking...but I never considered it might be helping my stomach issues.
linnielou232, do you get headaches from walking? If so, what did you find to help you?? I used to go on walks but at some point it started killing my head. I have to wear heavily padded shoes to even go grocery shopping.
It could be how much u r walking...start off on shorter walks and on even ground...no going uphill.
It's the pounding. Every step (even at the beginning) feels like a jolt up my spine and into my head. I started out walking and progressed downward to this, until I had to stop walking any distances. I focus really hard on not letting my feet hit the ground hard. If I wear sandals...omg, it's awful. I walk like I am 80 years old, just trying to lessen the pain.
I'm going to try out my bike this weekend and see how I do. If that works, the walking issue still stinks, but at least I can get some movement!
I'm in! I just joined Weight Watchers as well but find the support online isn't right for me as I have such a difficult time exercising. I was only diagnosed about three months ago so I'm still going through testing and my dr's trying to blame anything but Chiari.
I think I have IBS but am still in the testing phase. Great tip about the magnesium. I'll have to try it.
The only exercise I can do is the stationary bike.
I need to lose about 30-40 pounds.
Once we have our group and know our diet habits we will start with exercises for those with limitations.
A stationary bike is good, but it can be hard on ur back and neck...a recumbent bike is better if u have access to one as it is easier on both the back and neck.
If u have access to a pool,. walking in a pool where u have support from the buoyancy may help, plus u will have the resistance of walking against the water.
Just a thought.
I have HA when I put my head underwater at the pool. Does it make any sense?
For heating habit I don't know I should tries to write a food journal again and keep to it more than a few days this time! One good thing I guess, I dont drink colas or juices.
Yes it makes sense, when u go under water u add pressure to ur head...I have not gone under as I kindda knew that would happen....
If u r keeping a food journal it is best to keep it for a month or 2 in order to see patterns of food triggers etc....
I'm in!!!! I've got IBS & balance issues and more than 20 lbs to lose. I'm trying to eat healthier but still have work to do in that area.
How's everybody doing?
I've been able to ride my bike some. Not as much as I'd like but I've learned to accept that I have some limitations and not to beat myself up about it.
On a happy note, my family and I ate at IHOP last night and I was able to resist a big stack of pumpkin pancakes and go with a healthier omelette:)
Eating healthy is where we all have to start as many have issues with GERD and IBS, but that we are not as active as we would like to be is an even bigger issue....and age will also play a role, the older we are the harder to lose weight.....
So, it is good that u resisted, but in moderation we can have some of the foods we love so we do not feel deprived and go overboard when we feel low.
Next week I will start with some very simple exercises that are all based sitting so those that have balance issues can benefit.
These exercises are for the brain (mind) as well as for our dexterity....it is to help with co-ordination.
I want to slowly build to exercises that will also help us lose weight....
Since we have limitations and are all different in what we can and can not do, it is important that we all keep track of our individual progress.

I'll give it a try! I use to work out a lot a year ago. Now I struggle with trying to find some movement and not over doing it. I have a wonderful neighbor who loves to "encourage" me, and doesnt seem to understand that I must have limitations. The last time we worked out together I had a difficult week and a half to recover.

Hi....hopefully on Wednesday I will have a few suggested movements for those of us with limitations so we can start slow and build up some stamina.
