Still Need Pain Management Doc

Hi everyone
Thank you for the advice.  Thankfully I did not get uad but I have had my own RX for xanex in the past.  The MD is unwilling to help me.  He says he does not do pain management is going tto try to refer me to one.  The problem was is that when I went to see himt he first time I tested clean for everything.  I had never been tested in a doctors office before so I had no idea that was going to happen.  The truth was that due to going to school (I go to the junior college here and the money supports myself and my 13 year old daughter as I get no other help so I HAVE) to go).  I do not drive and I take the bus and walk.  I ran out of my meds before the month was over.  I wish I had found this sight sooner.  I have been in so much pain.  I have to go to school to better our life.  The FAFSA and student loans support us.Now I realize he thinks I was selling my pills and patches and there is not enough money in the world that would make me do that.  If anyone knows of a good pain mgmt doc in the placerville area please let me know.  When I get my loan etc in Aug I think I will just pay to go to one if I can't find one that take a Medi-cal.  I heard there was one in Auburn, CA but I don't know who it is.  I really want to let you all know how great you all are and how much you have helped me in just a few days!  It is nice to know that I am not alone and someone understands!  Thanks for helping me not give up!  I want to be able to function like I was and I do not think that is too much to ask!

hello, great for you going to school! my son is a single dad, he has over 20 bone tumors and he is also going to college. he does not go in public but over the internet. the colleges are credited the same and they have some wonderful ones to choose from--they take all grants some will even furnish you a computer, but it will come out of your loans. this allows him to do his work at his leisure, he does have dead lines and has to finish in class allotted time.  he is now working on his masters degree. this works out very well for single moms and dads-allows you to have more time with the little or bigger kids. it also helps him manage his pain better. he can sit and stand when needed or take a break and rest. he is getting all the loans, he has had to maintain an average, i believe you have to maitain a "c" average to keep the loans. i am so proud of him because he has kept  an a-b average through all his schooling.  he is going in business with computers on the side, he fixes friends and neighbors computers for a little extra $$$ . i know i am going on--trying to get out the info of online colleges in case you were not aware. it makes it so much easier. i know you said you have children and are in a lot of pain so i thought you could benefit from this kind of schooling. what state are you in? i'm not familiar with the place you mentioned. i am in la and we have some good pm's in this area. best of luck to you in finding what you need in hopes that you will soon be managing your pain and getting some much needed relief. god bless you and your family--kbe234

I am so glad your going to school plus raising your child. See if your dr will find the dr that you have heard about, that way they will take your insurance, I not sure but I think they can call pain drs and see what kind of insurance they take so they can check if they take yours or you can look it up on line like Runningmom has said. Maybe you can even call your insurance company and ask them for names of pain drs that take your insurance, that is what I do with mine.
I hope you do get the care you need so you can take care of your child and go to school. Chronic pain is so hard to live with.
Hang in there

Tuck and JadedSweetHeart are so right. I'm sorry that you have to read some of these posts. It's very tough to be a single Mother. You are on the right track with your education. I commend you.

My best,

I agree completely with Tuck and was going to say it myself.  For many people, the FAFSA covers some of tuition and books and then the loans make it possible to live and go to school when you can't work, and for many single mothers it is very hard to work, go to school, and spend quality time with your children all at the same time.  I did it for a short time and almost burned out.
Subsidized and Un-subsidized loans make it possible for people to pay the bills while they attend school.  The amount of the loan is usually proportionate to how many classes you take, as well.  These loans are paid back after the student leaves college.
Single mothers working for a better future for themselves and their children are by no means a drain on society, they are becoming future tax payers.  It's a lot easier to sit around and collect social services all day and not go to school or try to work.  I applaud anyone who is trying to better their future through going back to school and raising their children at the same time.  A better use of tax dollars than most of the pork-barrel spending in Washington.

Thank you Tuck. You taught me something again!! I ALWAYS learn from your posts. I would have equated it to a Scholarship BUT IT ISN'T!!  The Grants and School Loans ARE entirely different than just a Scholarship that it to be used ONLY for School Expenses.

Thanks for educating all of us!!....Sherry

Maybe there is a misunderstanding here or I missed something???

The school loans and some grants are intended to help you live when you go to school. Otherwise how would you eat and pay the necessities which can include medical care? It all depends on what type of grant or loan you apply for and/or are eligible to receive.

Hopefully once our poster gets through school she will be a contributing member of our workforce. She will more than payback her debt to society. That's the goal of state funded schooling...and it's normally very difficult to obtain these grants and loans and to continue to receive them. You have to continue to meet the requirements which includes good grades and attendance. Unless my state is the only one that has such strict requirements...but I doubt it as they are usually tied to federal funds.

Just my thoughts.

Even though you have a Rx for the Xanax, it's still illegal to take this from another person prescription.  There are heavy concenquences if caught.  I'm sorry your MD is unwilling to help you manage your pain.  However, I am glad that he is willing to give you a referral.  You should never run out of meds early either.  If your pain is being under treated, you must let the doctors know and not adjust your dosage of medication yourself.  The doctors will write in your file what they tell you.  This could hurt you down the road.  You must be very careful and follow the rules no matter how bad it hurts.  I don't mean to sound mean, but this is how it works.  As far as finding a good pain management doctor, try going on ratemds.com and look up doctors in your area.  Otherwise, use the referral your doctor has given you.  I wish you the best and I hope you are able to obtain decent pain relief.
