do i have prostatitis or an std?

ovi
a month and a half ago, I had protected sex with a stranger then a week later I had unprotected ORAL sex with another stranger.  Two days after the oral sex I was masturbating and I started getting a slight pain in the tip of my penis.  The next couple days I started having frequency of urination and a lower abdominal pain.  No pain on urination and no pus or discharge.  My family doc felt my prostate and said it was inflamed and diagnosed me with acute prostatitis.  My urine test was negative for any bacteria.  Put me on cipro for a month.  During cipro the pain in the tip of my penis was gone but I always maintained that low grade lower abdominal pain.  After the cipro within two days the pain got worse.  So now he has me on septra.  I've been on it for a few days but i still have that low grade abdominal pain some frequency and altered sensation at the tip of my penis.
what should i do? i will be taking septra for 2 weeks
what happens if it doesnt go away after the septra?  another antibiotic? I dont know if I have chlymadia or if this prostatitis was unrelated to the oral sex.
any insight would be appreciated
thanks

Hi,

Prostatitis can occur in response to an infection or may be just an inflammation due to some irritant conditions.

Too much or too little sexual activity has been supposed to cause prostatitis.

To rule out an infection of the prostate, a repeated urinalysis with a prostate massage would be needed.

It is possible that the infective organism is resistant or partially sensitive to the antibiotics you have been on.

Did you have any tests done to rule out STIs?

You can also do the following to alleviate your symptoms.
Drink plenty of fluids, in excess of 2000 ml per day.
Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods.
Restrict sexual activity to 3-4 times a week
Sit in a hot bath for 10-15 min per day.
Use a heating pad for the lower abdominal pain.
Take over-the-counter painkillers, such as tylenol for the pain.

Do keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
Regards
