ANOTHER DETOX RECIPE, I CALL IT THOMAS#2 - FROM FLADDICT

ANOTHER DETOX RECIPE, I CALL IT THOMAS#2 - FROM FLADDICT

These are the supplies that you will need: Do you have a doctor who will prescribe for you if you tell them that you are detoxing at home? The Valium and Clonidine (Catapres) are VERY important, as well as the Ultram, and possibly a muscle relaxer (Skelaxin is nice and mild).

1. Valium 10mg (don't get the 5mg... you need it to be strong enough to knock you out)

2. Ultram 100 mg ER (once a day extended release) is best, because you can't over-use it. It also comes in 50mg tabs (you can take 50-100 mg every 4-6 hrs for pain)

3. Clonidine (Catapres) 0.1 mg (this is going to keep your blood pressure down, and kinda "settle" you.

4. A muscle relaxer (optional) I used a mild one (Skelaxin Rx only) since I was also using the Valium.

5. Ask the Dr. About Cymbalta if you are not already on a antidepressant. This is a fairly new drug that is the first SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor... AKA antidepressant) that is also used for muscles spasms and pain.

6. Thomas recipe:

1. L-lysine 500 mg caps

2. Vit B-6 100 mg tabs

3. A good, high potency multi-vitamin ( don't go cheap on this)

4. Imodium (immodium)

5. BANANAS!!

6. The Thomas recipe also includes the valium and the Clonidine, and you can read about this on the link...

Other things that I needed:

1. MOST IMPORTANT! definitely buy some Hyland's homeopathic Leg Cramps with Quinine 100 tabs (cheap) This helps with the leg/arm restlessness and tingling... it worked wonders!

2. Ibuprophen (take 800 mg every 6 hr, or Aleve) ONLY if you are using the once-a-day Ultram... if you are using the 50 mg Ultram you will not need the NSAID's (Ibuprophen, Aleve, Naprosen)

3. Gatorade: DON'T FORGET TO DRINK... if you get dehydrated you will feel worse!!

4. Heating pad, ice, pillows, aromatherapy, hot baths... anything that will make you feel better :)

5. Stay on-line as much as you can and TALK... if you keep your mind busy you will feel so much better!

Ok, once you have all of your supplies, you will already feel less anxious and ready to commit. I went to my brother's house to detox because I have three young children, and I also knew that I needed a quiet place, love and support, and NO access to the drugs! Do you have a place where you can do this? You need to plan on at least 4 days of doing nothing but healing... no responsibilities! Ok... here we go...

Day 1

(You are on hour 12... things should be kicking in about now. For me I started withdrawals at hour 14 or so)

- Clonidine (Catapres) 0.1 mg three times a day

- Valium 10 mg (one knocked me out for about 6 hrs) I took it liberally... be careful not to take too much!

- Hylands (for restless leg) three dissolved under tongue every 3-4 hr)

- Muscle relaxer (optional)

- Cymbalta (if you get it) one before bed...

- Bananas!! and Gatorade

- Hot bath... if you are not too wiped out.

For me, on hour 14 I took a valium, a muscle relaxer, Hyland's, a hot bath, and passed out from the Valium. My brother and sister-in law slept by me... I tossed and turned most of the night, needing to stretch my arms and legs. My brother said that I did a lot of "crying out" in my sleep, but I don't remember it. I did get up in the night to change my sweat-soaked shirt and drink Gatorade... my brother also forced a banana down me, and then I passed out again.

Day 2

- Clonidine (Catapres) 0.1 mg three times a day (try to taper a little bit)

- Valium 10 mg (to produce sleep)

- Hylands (for restless leg) three dissolved under tongue every 3-4 hr)

- Muscle relaxer

- Cymbalta (if you get it) one before bed...

- Bananas!! and Gatorade

- Hot bath... if you are not too wiped out.

I slept through day 2 thanks to the Valium, and now you can see how important this med is! You get to sleep through the worst part of the withdrawals, which for me was hour 14-half of day three.

Day 3

- Clonidine (Catapres) 0.1 mg (start tapering back)

- Valium 10 mg (start tapering back)

- Hylands (for restless leg) three dissolved under tongue every 3-4 hr)

- Muscle relaxer (start tapering back)

- Cymbalta (if you get it) one before bed...

- Bananas!! and Gatorade (you will probably be able to start eating)

- Hot bath

Day 4

This is the day that you turn the corner!

* Start the vitamin part of the Thomas recipe... it works wonders!

- When you wake up, on an empty stomach:

- L-lysine (take 4... 2,000 mg)

- 1 Multivitamin

- 1 Vitamin B-6

- Wait one hour and then try to eat something... anything even if it is only a tiny bite!

On day 4, I felt really good in the morning, went out and swam a bit in brother's pool, and then "punked out" around 1:00 in the afternoon. I took one Clonidine, and a half of a valium, and took a nap. That night I took a whole Valium, the Cymbalta, the Ultram, another Clonidine, the Hyland's and slept like a baby!

Day 5 YOU DID IT!! Woke up feeling like a "NORMAL PERSON"! it was amazing. Took the vitamins... did not need any Clonidine or Valium! Went for a walk... punked out a little in the afternoon... but didn't need a nap. Took 1/2 Valium that night, Ultram, and Cybalta.

Day 6

FEELING GREAT!

Vitamins

1/2 Valium at night

Cymbalta (I am continuing to take this because it is a great anti--depressant, and helps with the pain)

Ultram ( I am also continuing to take this, but am tapering off VERY slowly)

Day 7

FEELING GREAT!

Vitamins

1/2 Valium at night

Cymbalta (I am continuing to take this because it is a great anti-depressant, and helps with the pain)

Ultram ( I am also continuing to take this, but am tapering off VERY slowly)

Today is day 9, and I am continuing the above regimen. I FEEL NORMAL!! I did not take the L-lysine today, but did take the multi-vit. Keep in mind that everyone is different... you may respond differently to some of the meds than me... I did not have any side-effects. Play around with the Valium, you may be more or less sensitive to it, and be sure to ask your doctor what the max dose is, you can also ask the a pharmacist. You are going to be emotional... I still have moments, and still have "crying spells" but it feels good to cry. I do a lot of deep breathing, stretching, and meditation. The mind is a very powerful thing, and you can do ANYTHING that you set your mind to. As far as getting the prescriptions for the needed meds: I don't know if you have insurance, what your financial situation, if you have a Dr. friend, or an understanding doctor... but do what you need to do to get the scripts that you need for this. You can go to urgent care... I would be careful about the ER... they may suggest a 30 day program if you go there to get the scripts, I am not sure if they can "commit" you against your will. Hell, take this email in if you have to, to explain your plan... fax it to you doctor to read... ANYTHING! (coming from a person in the medical field, there is NO excuse not to get the Rx's that you need)

Lastly, don't forget to keep posting... that is the most important of all... you can also call the toll-free number for NA and talk to someone. Good luck... I KNOW THAT YOU CAN DO THIS!! Let me know if you need anything else.
