Natural medications

I am fed up with dealing with this curse alone and never being able to get any help from doctors. I want to try medication so badly even if it makes my mania or depression worse if it relieves other things i wouldnt care. Alterations between insomnia and hyposomnia, suicidal levels of depression one day then highs of the greatest joys ive ever had with hallucinations sometimes hours later. It feels like my bipolar is ultradian at times.. there is medication for all of these problems but i cannot get any =(

Could people who may be reading this please give me any information they have on natural anti depressants or psychotics, herbs, tea, hallucingenic mushrroms, deers **** i dont care what it is i just really need some information ill try anything.

Perhaps you shouldn't ask them for the medications, even though you might need them.  Ask them for help in dealing with what you are dealing with and perhaps they won't "blindly" put you in a box - looking for meds.

Also, I wonder if they consider that you are pursuing a degree in psychology and you are experimenting with the process to see how it works.  Make them take you seriously, and I think in your case, going to the hospital might be the best alternative for you.

Being 19 is hard enough - being 19 with these issues has to be horrific.  I have a 19 year old son, and if he were having these problems, I would want to know and help him.  Are your parents an issue for help?

and DON"T take anything you aren't prescribed.  If you cut off your arm, you would go to the store and get a band aid.....  same thing.

You should not have to pay for your medication.  As you are a student you should get free prescriptions?

When you see the campus counsellor then tell them everything.  Have you registered with a local doctor in the city where you are studying?  If not then you should have done so - speak to the counsellor about this also and they can help you with that.

Tell the doctor everything also, and yes show him/her the scars if thats what it takes for them to take you seriously.  In order for you to be treated correctly the health care professional needs to know everything.

I would like reiterate what monkeyc said - Do not self medicate with illegal substances or alcohol or the like - this will make your symptoms worse and not better.

There is no quick fix or natural remedy for BP however it does not hurt to follow a very healthy diet and take multi vitamins and omega 3, i find this has helped alleviate my symptoms alongside prescribed medication.  It has been proven that certain B vitamins and omega 3 can help with mental illness - if the body has a lack of these it can lead to mental illness ergo by taking them you are making sure your body has enough of it.  Every little helps.

I understand what you are going through. I have been bi polar all my life. My family just said I was high strung or she has a temper.
I do remeber being taken to a doc when we lived in at Ft Bliss and the doc told my parents that weren't consistant with with me. This was back in in '66 or '67.Nobobdy I knew in my little world about manic depression or bi polar let alone any kind of mental illness.
I didnt get DX till '98 I have been on lots of meds but the 2 I am on now are working great for me now.
Please dont give up or let your age make you feel like you cant get help. There is help for you.If you need to check yourself into the hospital This is your health and you need to be your own best advocate.
Keep coming here. This is free therapy. It is so great to be able to talk with other bi polar folks.
BTW I use to live in the UK so I understand your frustration with the med system there.
Message me if you ever need to talk some more. I promise to listen.

I envy all of you on medication but i cannot get any.. if i keep looking ill look like a junky.. if i get them then ill turn into some kind od addict again and if i stay off them ill just feel weak.

I said if i was my own patient i would tell myself to go. Has no one ever realised how you help every person in the world and do all the good you possibly can but can help everyone but yourself? helping other people is diffrent to yourself, if i go to the doctors saying i hallucinate im going to say they are frequent, also their not frequent, other times their constant? they're going to think wow this dude really needs to get his story strait and ask me to leave

i also dont believe they can go soley on my word alone, i could be lieing to them, if they ask can we contact anyone else to verify this information i will tell them no.

you guys are adults to easier for you to get help... im 19 the depression and nightmares started when i was young but the delusions and hallucinations ive only started to consciously be aware theres something wrong there mabye the last few years because you dont just wake up one morning and think to yourself im going to question my thoughts.. its just got worse and worse after 16 or 17 i was a kid im barely a adult now, i really dont have the power in any of my claims to make them believable to people thats what ive been trying to say

i've chatted with you on instant messenger and you seem sincere in your desire for treatment, yet you refuse to seek it out, assuming all doctors are the same.  You need to chose whether to live with this or live against this.  The meds help!!!  Keep bugging doctors until you get the help you need!  This isn't something that is going to go away or get better on it's own, your own schooling has taught you that.  You told me that if you were your own patient you'd tell you to seek help....sounds like good advice to me.  Good luck!

OK I get your point now.

See another doctor, got to a hospital, if you are studying psychology there must be a psychiatrist around somewhere you can speak to - some doctors are ignorant and some are plain dangerous and should not be doctors.

That being said one doctor does not make the whole lot bad, go and see another one, if you say you know what the sympomatic behaviours are and you can see them (and your symptoms fit to me) then you owe it to yourself to get the help you need.

The reality is that as a psychologist you can have the capacity to help in many many people's live, to even save people's lives - so if you need to get treated to be able to do that please do it - there are not enough psychlogists who understand BP and you will certainly be able to do that - first you need to get help for yourself and then you will be able to help others.

Don't give up OK, we've all felt like you are now at times, like no one understood or took us seriously - we take you seriously and we understand, go out and get the help you need and we will be here.

Why cant you get any?
Have you been diagnosed?
Have you seen a psychiatrist?

Youre in the UK which means from what I know all you need to do is go to any NHS hospital or see any Family Doctor, I find it rather strange that you cant get any meds if you have done this?  Whats going on?..

There is no such thing as a proven natural treatment for bipolar - some things help some people in conjunction with other drugs such as Omega 3 for example but no you cannot find a natural treatment for the disease on its own despite what any number of snake oil merchants and shysters who prey on the mentally ill will tell you - yes some people have luck with things but they are also normally using them as conjunctive treatments.

And stay the **** away from anything which is a hallucinogen or mind altering including any illegal drugs like ecstasy or pot or meth - these are NOT drugs you should be thinking about EVER touching if you are mentally ill.

honey you sound like you need to check yourself into the psych ward.  yeah those places suck but it's been the only place i've been able to get stable when i've been how you describe.  The roller coaster *****....been there done that., but you have to hang in there and work to get the right meds.  If you can't afford them the patient assistant programs are great...they are a lot of paperwork though.  Before I got my disability and title 19 insurance I was getting $1500/month (retail value) for these programs for free.  Hang in there and don't be afraid to be the squeaky wheel when it comes to your care...what's the worse that's gonna happen?  they put you someplace where you get the help you need?  lol  good luck and let me know how it goes.
