Low dose prozac

by lynda544, Aug 01, 2008 01:42PM
I have been on low dose prozac since week 15 of my pregnancy. My doctor assures me that there are more risks to a baby who's Mother is depressed than to a baby who's Mother is on prozac. I'm due to deliver in 3 weeks and I am on 20mg of prozac every day. What are the potential side effects to the baby and what will they be looking for at birth? I plan on breast feeding also. Will low dose prozac effect my baby through breast milk?

The studies to date of prozac use do not show a major association with abnormalities or developmental problems, but there is still not an abundance of data to determine the use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.  Following the plan established by your doctor is the best course of action, since your doctor is familiar with all the considerations required to make these types of treatment decisions.
