Vicodin Addiction?

Vicodin Addiction?

I have been prescribed vicodin by my OBGYN for migraines, etc, during my pregnancy. I am currently 39 weeks pregnant and should deliver any day.
I feel like I (and more importantly, the baby) have become dependant on the medication. I take approximately 30-40mg a day. I have done extensive research on this and keep finding conflicting answers to my questions.
At 40mg, is it likely that the baby will suffer from withdrawals? Its my understanding that there is less concern about long term effects on the baby. At this dose, which I understand is relatively low, would it be terribley harmful to quit cold turkey? Even though I am prescibed the meds, I have been taking them very regularly lately (they are for "occasional" migraines) and I am very concerned about getting in trouble at the hospital.
Any info/advice is appreciated. Would love to hear any first hand experience on this matter.
Thanks

You should discuss any change in your medication with your Obstetrician, since she/he will help you manage any future pain issues.  Although stopping the Vicodin would be beneficial to your baby, you and your doctor should weigh and discuss the options.

It is possible that your baby will have withdrawal symptoms after birth, but these can be assessed and treated.  Your baby may need to stay in the hospital extra days in order to treat the withdrawal symptoms, but there are no known long term effects from neonatal withdrawal.
