1/31/07 Surgery ~ Left Lobe Removed because of single complex 4 cm nodule found on palpation and confirmed on ultrasound (September 2006)

final pathology- ALL BENIGN but multiple nodules found on examination, final diagnosis~ multi nodular goiter

9 days post surgery and feeling pretty good. Scar looks like it will heal and fade nicely. All in all, glad to have it over and done with. First check up with Endo to check labs and make sure the right side is doing all it needs to do to keep my thyroid levels in check is March 15. Currently no meds.

To all the newbies, this is definitely doable...try not to stress too much.

Partial May18 06.substernalgoiter and tt Sept 25 06 With papillary cancer.RAI sceduled May 6.I am bi polar so this has been real fun while getting meds adusted and going through hypohellAgian.Somebody dropped the ball on my insurance coverage back in Dec for my RAI then,so now I start getting ready for RaI on the 15th
AS far as I know there is no thyroid history in my family but I have my suspisions about the bi polar. All my research has lead me to believe they both go hand in hand.NOw was I bi polar with thyroid trouble or was it thyroid trouble with bi polar symptoms? So now I am thyroidless bi polar with 4 meds to take the rest of my life.(just a little bitter still)
I dont know what I would do without this forum.the family is supportive but you have gone through this while they havent.Yall understand  because  we have each of us been there.Tahnks to all of you from bottom of my heart.

1/9/07 ~ Partial Thyrodectomy due to 2 nodules that tested FNA "atypical folicular" but upon final biopsy were benign.  Found on routine exam 1.7cm and .5cm

Final Biopsy Report:  2 Papillary Microcarincomas found upon Final Biopsy 48hrs later in another part of the gland.  One was 4mm and the other one .5mm if I recall correctly.

Synthroid: Aim is to supress other side. Started 2 weeks ago and go for bloodwork in 2 weeks.

Surgery:  The surgery itself wasn't too bad but I had rough time afterwards with the anestesthia and had migraine headache with severe vertigo for 24hrs.  All that said, it was worth it to have that side GONE forever along with the Cancer

Gameplan: Watch the other side very closely and have u/s done ev. 6 mos.  I have a 3mm nodule on that side (oops .. I've been saying 2mm but I looked @ the u/s report and was mistaken all these weeks on the board)

Total Thyroidectomy 12/7/07- final report benign

Surgery was very easy- had a great surgeon! Healing hasn't been bad either. My scar is just a red line at the crease of my neck now thanks to vitamin E.
Adjusting my synthroid, well that's become tricky.

Given the choice I would certainly do it all over again. I'd rather have half a brain than none at all !
