Thyroid Cyst/Chronic Sore throat

by Pegasus01, May 17, 2008 04:14PM
Woke up Jan. 1 with sore throat, 7 hrs later lump on my neck.  Diagnosed cyst on left thyroid lobe, Fine needle aspiration in Jan. Benign.  March 08 needle aspiration to see if we can reduce cyst.  Chronic sore throat (very painful) and pain when you push on neck area where cyst is.  I have seen 3 endo doctors, and  my family doctor.  All say no thyroid function problem.  All bloodwork looks good.  No inflammation.  Endo docs are having a hard time suggesting my sore throat has anything to do with cyst.  Very coincidental I have a sore throat and later that day cyst shows up.I also had CT soft tissue scan to rule out anything else.  I have also seen the ENT guy twice.  No vocal cord problems and throat issues (even though inflammed).

GI docs says possible refluxing upper throat area.  Endo docs are concerned if we take nodule out and I have the same problem (chronic sore throat/pain in neck) then what?  My eyes also have been bothering me in the last 3 months.  Focusing, feel dry, constanting blinking.

Has anyone experienced these symptoms or am I nuts.  I do not want to have surgery unless I feel fairly certain this is whats causing my sore throat.

I would do the reflux meds and keep in close contact with your Docs .. they sound good.  My 10yr old daughter had undiagnosed reflux that caused constant sore throats and she never felt it come up bcz it was deemed "silent reflux" yet it was inflamming her vocal cords and actually aggravating bilateral vocal cord polyps!!!!!!!

Have they done a simple scope thru the nose in your office?

I'd vote for reflux meds for a trial first .. reflux is sneaky stuff and causes sore throat pain as you describe and sounds like they found inflammation .. ????
