hashitmoto's and hives

by mirandavilla, Oct 22, 2008 09:49PM
i have been on Doxepin, Atarax, Claritin since 2003 for chronic hives...i had them for the first time when i was 19 and i only took Atarax, i scared of meds then i did not even take prednisone and i was covered in welts and crying so hard. the atarax sort of helped then but only for a certain time..to be honest, doxepin is my lifesaver...i only take 10mg now at night, used to take 40-50mg after i was on prednisone for awhile back in 2003....prednisone is a miracle it really is but it is dangerous..doxepin is very good, i alwasy say it blocks the hives completely...i take 10mg along with claritin each day and i take 2-3 25mg Atarax per day for headaches/nose allergies....sometimes i have to take 20mg of Doxepin if i am really stresed or in the winter.......

atarax and doxepin are both good. i have gone off of doxepin completely because one immunologist said it was bad on the liver and i just then took Atarax and Tagament, some H2 blocker he told me.......i went on doxepin because it is the best, it holds for a long time, i mean it does not lose it's strength at all, it helps me sleep too......believe me it really deadens the pain of hives, even the 10mg.......only one i take,,,,and i have tried to skip it and i itch, get that crazy itch back.....

doctors have also told me hives are genetic.....my dad gets hives at times....

i have been tested for all kinds of allergens and nothing comes up

i just take my meds and that is all!!!!
