one nodule

I went in this week to decide on treatment for osteoporosis- the Dr. felt on my neck and said I had an enlarged thyroid. I immed. had us done and now they rec fna but cannot get me in for several weeks.My right ear hurts and I never have ear trouble. The nodule is less than 1 inch in size but Dr. said she could see it  and I never noticed it. She said it had been there for a long time but I had just been to another Dr. and she did a routine check and said all was normal. Blood work indicates thyroid is funct. properly.I am scared it could be cancer especially since it has possibly been there a long time. What should I do?

I would get a sonogram of the thyroid and see what that shows first. (hugs)
