papillary carcinoma / menstrual cycle

by thordis, Jan 08, 2008 01:05PM
Please help,

I just got my whole thyroid removed due to  papillary carcinoma. I have been on a really heavy period for 7 days before the surgery and my OB Gyn just told me to get my thyroid fixed and put me on a birthcontrol pill to stop the bleeding. the bleeding never stopped. it is just light, but I have been on a light period for over 2 weeks now, despite the birthcontrol pills.
my endocronologist thinks that that has nothing to do with my thyroid.
how is the thyroid related to the periods and what should I do? I am off my Levoxyl now also, because I am waiting for the iodine treatment.
thanks for any help

I had this problem a few times too.  Ask your OB/GYN about whether or not you need a D&C.

Going off thyroid meds can really mess with your menstrual cycle but bleeding for three weeks sounds like more of an OB/GYN problem.

Hang in there sis!  When is your RAI?
