Girlfriends and friends uneducated show bipolar persecution, confused

by DP69, Aug 10, 2008 05:17PM
I've been disgnosed bipolar before when I had some anger issues, and because my mother intervened and told them she had been diagnosed bipolar, I still feel bitter and sort of backstabbed...because as soon as these shrinks hear that, theautomatically diagnose me based on heredity. I am quite convinced that there are different levels of manic depressive mood "disorder", as I really hate the word bipolar and I really hate the word disorder. THe whole indust should take a look at what they are feeding their patients mentally. It appears to be a system set up to sell prescription drugs, and the dollars that these drugs make everybody indirectly drives the system. I am 32 now and would admit to one "manic episode" when I was 21 and had not slept for 2 1/2 days and chased after my fratenity who were taking a trip to L.A. from hawaii. I missed their flight and made a conscious decision to buy a ticket on a credit card to get there because I was excited about going to L.A. for the first time. Now I've lived in L.A. for 8 years less 22 months in Texas, and have been screwed by the system twice. When I read about bipolar disorder I can realte to somethings, but I have become a firm believer that psychiatrists can very easily confuse personality with mania and I just don't feel bipolar. My initial search that brought me to this site was lookign for info on how people that have had or have acute "mental problems", and thus it shows in their personality/behavior get unfairly persecuted or as in the case of a new girlfriend..."you have mental problems, I can tell"..."the way you talk, like schizo"...and of course, that's not true, ing a scatterbrain and creative thinker doesn't make you schizo,I told her you're disrespecting the people that have a real problem by saying that to me..but I would be uncomfortable sharing the whole bipolar **** with a new girlfriend...please advise..I tried to hustle state assistance in Texas to get free psych and drugs, and in the process talked with a state worker who told me that the most common thing people tell her is that they jsut choose to ignore it.

None of us felt bi polar when we were first diagnosed The 2 top hardest things for bi polar are to believe they are bi polar and to take their meds.because we dont think we are bi polar or the meds start to work and make us feel better so we dont think we need them.
You dont have to tell anyone you are bi polar. Its nobdys business but yours and if people are passing judgments well do you really need to b around people like that.
In my case the meds and therapy have been the saving of me I am still a creative vibrant person who just happens to be bi polarI have been stable now for 8 year,It feels great after a lifetime of bi polar behavior. Some people assume I am ditz becasue I like to have fun while I work but whn they talk to me they realize I am pretty smart and rethink their first opinion of me and thats ok What is important is how I think of me. I think highly of me so therefore others think highly of me too an value me as a person.
I had a hard time getting a good psychiatist and therapist but I really wanted conquer bi polar so I didnt give uop till I got the ones I have today. Its the same with meds not all meds work the sameway for everyone Thats why there are different meds. What works for me may not work for you and so forth but the thing is dont give up until you get what works for you.
there are many brilliant successful people that are bi polar google it and see who pops up.
You may or maynot be bi polar I am not a doctor so its not for me to say but some of the tone of your post says there is something going on there Good luck to you
Love venora
