Positive outcomes possible?

Positive outcomes possible?

My 86 year old Mom is hospitalized with heart failure after a "cardiogenic" event about 3 weeks ago.  Her Ejection Fraction has been estimated to be anywhere from 15 to 30%, depending on the doctor discussing her situation on any given day.  We have been discouraged and were recently advised to disconnect her defibrillator so she could just pass away in peace after the next "event."  I am hesitant to take such a drastic step.  Is this a common solution to end-stage heart failure?

If the physicians believe the outcome is inevitable then frequently the defibrillator can be turned off and cardiac hospice consulted for help with comfort measures.
