type I diabetes

My friend has type I diabetes and has frequent stomach pain that is very severe and sometimes throws up. When she takes her blood sugars it is with in normal range. She also in the last 2 years has developed environmental allergies.  What could cause this and what kind of a doctor should she go to?

Hi,
It is tough to say what the cause might be without further history and an examination. Individuals who have had diabetes for some time can develop problems with stomach emptying and thus have difficulties with nausea etc after eating. The pain could also be from ulcer disease(which may not be related at all to diabetes). Individuals with Type 1 diabetes can have some tendency towards allergic reactions, but environmental allergies are also quite common overall.
I think your friend should see a Gastroenterologist about her stomach pains and vomiting, and fairly quickly if she can. An Allergist is probably the best person to see about her allergy concerns.
