My husband's physician found his thyroid enlargedEnlarged adenoids Enlarged prostate and ordered an ultrasound and some bloodwork. I would love some opinions on the results.
The ultrasound revealed the following: The thyroid was diffusely heterogenous with multiple nodules bilaterally. The largest on the right measures .880 X .986 X .854 cm. The left lobe has a large nodule in the lower pole measuring 5.10 X 3.99 X 5.27 cm. The thyroid measures RIGHT 1.37 X 1.48 X 4.74 cm LEFT 3.33 X 2.79 X 7 cm.
The bloodwork results are:
Thyroxine (T4T4 test) 8.1 ug/dL
T3 Uptake 34%
Free Thyroxine Index 2.8
Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) 6 IU/mL
TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh .550 uIU/mL
Thyroglobulin Quantitative 694 ng/mL
Antithyroglobulin <20 iU/mL
I am very concerned about the thyroidglobulin levels. Although everywhere you read states that you cannot determine malignancyHyperpigmentation w/malignancy Malignancy, they all say you use this level to determine whether cancer treatments are working or whether or not the cancer has returned.
Can someone please give me some guidance as to what could cause these elevated thyroglobulin levels when all the other tests seem fine? Also can someone tell me how high the levels are for his thyroglobulin? (ie, extremely high, moderately high, etc.)
If the gland is diffusely heterogenous with multiple nodules it is usually a autoimmune disease like Hashimoto..You can have elevated thyroglobulin with this, mine was 286, but i also had a high TPO of 1300..You dont always have to have any antibodies(TPO) to show up even if you have Hashimotos..Has he had a FNA on the larger nodual? Someone will be along with more info on this for you..
