cystic mass

by Luchie1013, Sep 05, 2008 04:36AM
My thryoid ultrasound conclusion is Normal size thyroid with a complex mass in the right and cystic mass in the left.  The right thyroid lobe measures 4.7 x 1.2 x 1.4 cm.  There is a 1.21 cm complex mass in the lower pole.
The left measure 4.7 x 1.2 x 1.4.  A 0.48 cm cystic mass is seen in the middle pole.  The isthmus has an AP diameter of 0.17  No mass is seen.  The masses do not show vascularity or calcification.  Rest of the parenchyma is homogenous and normovascular.
What does all of these mean ?  What is the next step I should take ?

The complex mass is subject to biopsy  because of the size larger then 1 cm;
complex means it is the cyst [blister] with some solid material floating in it.
Although usually benign, the complex nodules have slightly elevated risk for malignancy; 15% compared to 5% for nodules in general.
