Easing the itch of a fresh tattoo...

by OriginalCin, Oct 12, 2007 08:15PM
Hello!
I've got several tattoos and I do recall itching associated with the healing process, but the last two that I just got last week are by far the nuttiest! I'm going insane with the itching!
They're 8 days old now and weren't very deep and didn't bleed, ooze or scab hardly at all. A few days later, there was some flaking and gentle peeling of the skin and it looks VERY well, considering. I've been applying A&D ointment and even some hydrocortizone in the last couple of days, but the itching is making me crazy. And, um...they're right above my buttocks, so it looks like I'm sitting around scratching my butt all day...because I am! The tattoo artist used sterile technique and was very professional and as I've said...I'm no novice, just experiencing something that I find to be just a little unusual. There's nothing like a rash or raised flesh or scabbing or anything to give a clue.
Anyone  have any suggestions as to what's going on and maybe what I could do to ease the frustration? Thanks a bunch!

Have you tried Curel?  My tat artist recommended it and I thought it really helped.  You could also try Aveeno with oatmeal.    Also try taking some benedryl for a few days.  Good luck!
