Degenerative Disk Disease in 14 yr old female?

Summer of 2008, my 14-yr old daugher was knocked down HARD by a runner during a softball game.  This was the end of her softball for the season.  Several tests, x-rays, showed that her lower back was fractured.  She wore a hard brace for 6-8 weeks.  Continued to have back problems off and on.  In early February 2009, she was pitching softball at school and the pain came back full force.  She had a MRI done last week but we won't know the results until we meet with the doctor on March 4th.

The doctors believe that she has DDD, and when she was knocked down (very hard!) during softball last year, that aggravated the DDD and made it worse.  Doctors are saying it depends on the result of the MRI, but she may face injection(s) or surgery.

Any suggestions or advice?  Back surgery on a now 15 year old seems so unreal . . . she's so young and very athletic.  Thank you.
