Growth by fish's eye

I am a little concerned about one of my fish as this evening I noticed a growth on the side of it's head, near the eye. The growth is an irregular shape, and is black (the same colour as the markings). There also seems to be some sort of black film covering the fish's eye, so that you cannot see the eye at all. I am obviously worried and not sure what to do as nobody seems to have described the same symptoms.
