Medical records

How can I find 10 years of medical records(Dr.'s appointmens, treatments, etc. in(hopefully)one place?  Need these for interrogatories. Also, how can I find charges for these treatments, appointments, etc.?   I have Medicare and Anthem Blue Cross Classic F ins.

Each hospital has a seperate medical records department. You would need to ask there.

Some records after so many years in certain health care facilities are destroyed which can be a real road block to your search which I'm guessing yours were not judging by your reply.  I know this is for sure back before they used computers to store records on paper; I don't know today if they do it with digital records.  Just thought I would mention it so you can keep it in mind in the future.

Many or most facilities keep records only for the length of time mandated by law, which varies from state to state.  I think that in most states it is five to seven years.  A few practioners keep records longer than required, but probably not many do.  Maintaining records takes up space, and space costs money.  If they transfer the records to a form that takes up less space (say, scanning into digital), that costs money, too.  So most places get rid of records that they are no longer required to keep.

Last fall there was a post on here from a woman who had gotten medical records from 1950!!
she said she had been refused more than a dozen times, but finally got a sympathetic ear, someone really searched, and the records did exist in a separate storage facility.
She got the records in Springfield, MA.
I would LOVE to hear more from her about how she went about it.

Hospitals have to have someone present when you review your records and you are not allowed to see ALL of it, only parts of it.

I want to know if you can REQUIRE a copy of your doctor's reports after he dictates them after you leave his office, I think mine have wrong information on them.
